Will Karo Syrup Break the Cycle?
Vivan had her 6 month check-up, and and she got a good bill of health. We talked to the doctor about her lack of sleep (at night), lack of nursing/bottle/solids, and lack of pooping. The doctor thinks the latter is what's holding up progress: if she is constipated, then she doesn't want to eat much, and tries to make up for her lack of calories in the middle of the night (I still get up twice a night to nurse!). She recommended giving her a daily teaspoon of Karo syrup to help her get "regular" so she will take more solids/milk during the day, and consequently sleep longer at night. Sounds good in theory, right?
Here's Viv's vitals:
Weight: 14 lbs, 14 oz (down to the 26th percentile)
Height: 27 inches (up to the 90th percentile)
Head: 41.2 cm (20th percentile)
Looks like we're destined to have long, skinny babies!

Lily the Lightweight Champion!
Lily has finally tripled her birthweight! Sure, that "typically" happens around age 1, but whatever, she's growing at her own pace and that's all that counts! As a matter of fact, the doctor no longer recommends we go in for weight-checks anymore. Hooray!
Her 2-year vitals are:
Weight: 21 lbs, 3 oz (about 3rd percentile)
Height: 34" (55th percentile)
Head: 46 cm (15th percentile)
Vivian goes in this Friday for her 6 month check-up, so we'll keep you posted on her progress as well...

Viv Video
That's right! I finally figured out how to edit some of our videos down to a smaller size. This one is about 1/2 a MB, which I'm guessing will take only 5 minutes on Dial-up?
If doesn't play for you -- don't blame me!!

The Birthday Girl is Not Feeling Well
Hooray! Lily June turns 2 on Monday! This morning (Sunday), however, our birthday girl woke up with a runny nose and quite a cough. She must have a sore throat too because she has barely drank anything, including her beloved juice. Today wasn't a total loss though; she had fun trying on various articles of clothing-- bathing suits, dresses, PJs, underwear, you name it--and gaining a newfound appreciation for PlayDoh.
We've noticed before that when Lily gets sick she gets really punchy and goes into Toddler Hyperdrive. But, unfortunately, we'll be keeping her actual birthday tomorrow low-key so she can get a little rest, and hopefully, make a full recovery by Saturday for her little Birthday Party.
(In other news, Vivian and I both seem to be getting this crud too...)
Stay tuned this week for details on Lily's 2-year check-up at the doctor's office...

Rearranging the Kid Stuff
Lily has settled back in nicely from her big trip with Dad to her Gramy's. She had a blast up there and has finally caught up on her sleep (and seems happy to be back in her own crib)! Now that she is back, her high chair has gone "bye-bye" and she's eating in her booster seat in the kitchen. We tried to make this switch awhile ago by using the booster seat in the dining room, but her parents weren't consistent about it. But now it's a matter of necessity to get her switched over so Vivian can go in the high chair. We're hoping that by the time we pull out the high chair again Viv will finally be ready for solids (previous attempts have failed), and that Lily will deal with it. Maybe. Hopefully.
Also, Viv's little bathtub is being moved into the bathroom this week. She usually gets her bath with the lil' tub on the kitchen counter, but turns out she is a BIG splasher!! Half the water is out by the time she gets finished--all over me, the floor, the toaster over, and the coffee-maker!! Lily was never a big splasher, and primarily bathed in the kitchen sink as soon as she could sit up (it seemed easier than us trying to lean over the big bathtub). But, I think we'll be skipping that with Viv and she'll just start bathing with her sister when she sits well enough. It may initially kill my back to have to lean over the big tub, but at least I'll know all the electronic appliances will be safe.
