Crawling

Here's dear little Vivian Rae, only two days after figuring out how to crawl.

Bath Time

We only have limited online storage space, so we have to clean out "old" movie files. Hence, I've deleted all movies from August and July -- to make room for this little gem: Co-Bathing. If you want to keep a movie, you should download it and save it. If you want a copy of any of the movies that I've now deleted, just email me, and I'll send send them to you (assuming your email account can accept a 2 to 5 Mb file).

8th Month EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness, what a week for Vivian:

1. Over the weekend, she started to babble -- up to this point she had just been squealing, screaming, blowing raspberries, and making a silent "p" sound. Suddenly she's full on with "babababa", "wawawa", "mamama", "papapa" and "dadadadaa"

2. On Monday she hit 8 months

3. On Wednesday, when we propped her up by the couch, she started "cruising" -- holding on to the couch and moving about a foot and 1/2 over to a toy.

4. On Wednesday night, we gave her a bath in her new bath chair, and she can now take a bath with Lily (who is thrilled to have "baby sissy" in the tub with her).

5. On Thursday night, she started pulling up to a standing from a sitting position.

6. The screaming that we were awoken with around 4am on Friday (thursday night), was her getting TWO bottom teeth.

7. Friday morning, she started officially crawling, moving a couple of feet to get to toys.

This weekend's agenda: HEAVY BABY-PROOFING!

The Update

I know, I know, it's been ages since we posted anything about what the girls are up to lately. Well, I'm happy to report that they haven't started high school yet!

Vivian is FINALLY sleeping through the night. She backslid for awhile, but we've had almost a full week of her sleeping 11-12 hours solid. (It involved sleep-training ME to retreat downstairs to sleep!) I hate to jinx it by even talking about it. She's also eating solids when she's in the mood (they are offered 3 times a day). She's gumming crackers, rice cakes and frozen bagels (still no teeth have popped up!). And she's trying to crawl--rocking back and forth and occasionally gets a few inches forward or backward. She tries to climb out of her kiddie tub and enjoys standing against anything that will bear her weight. I suspect cruising and crawling is in our immediate future, as well as child-proofing, which we did not have to do with Lily...Vivian is also working on the "p" sound and squeals quite a bit. When she's mad she blows rasberries! She definitely knows how to get her point across...

Lily's communication skills have continued to explode, and along with that comes newfound social stuff. She'll engage in a short conversation with you now, but it usually involves using her favorite phrases. For example, if Phil and I are talking about someone she always adds on her bit: "and also a good girl." Matters not if that someone is male, female, animal or human. She has also made friends with a set of twin girls, and she talks about them incessantly. Which has worked to our advantage to get her to do what we'd like on occasion ("Emma eats her carrots.") It goes both ways, as the twins seem rather enamoured with Lily too. Very sweet to see her make little friends at this age!

Stay tuned for new and exciting highlights in the Grosshans Child-Rearing Project!
